When 30-year-old Ghatkopar resident Shaikh Salma Tabassum went into labour on the 18520 LTT-Visakhapatnam Express on Sunday, July 15, the chances of a safe delivery seemed slim.
But thanks to quick-thinking women cops at the busy Kalyan station in Mumbai, the expecting mother safely gave birth to twins on platform 4 at 07:52 am!
Tabassum, a resident of Ghatkopar Narayan Nagar, Ghatkopar, started feeling strong contractions while she was onboard the LTT-Vishakapatnam express.
Passengers raised an alarm about the emergency. Within no time the Railway Protection Force rushed to the woman’s aid.
According to an Indian Express report, the on-duty Sub Inspector Nitin Gaur, along with RPF women head Constables – Neelam Gupta and Surekha Kadam – pressed into action.
They tended to the ailing mother at the platform and with the help of the Railway Medical Staff, helped her safely deliver the twins, a boy and a girl.
The mother and newborn twins were later shifted to the Rukmanibai Hospital for further postnatal treatment and care.
